I love this verse. It is so powerful that I wove it into one of my songs: Ich suchte dich / I searched for you
Like a seal I carry you within my heart,
your name shines in me like a brilliant star.
No flood can ever drown my love,
and no mountain can keep me far from you.
These words capture the deep love between two people who have decided to belong to one another forever. Their commitment is settled. It is sealed.
The verse comes from the biblical book of Song of Songs (8:6). It speaks of the extraordinary power of true love and the profound bond between two hearts. Three thoughts stand out to me.
Belonging
„I belong completely to you. We are inseparably connected.“
Do such words need any explanation? Not really. When the heart knows it and speaks it, nothing more needs to be said.
Lasting Love
Real love endures. It is not a passing feeling, a performance, or something that can be staged. It is a miracle. A gift.
The Bible presents love as something eternal—not a fleeting emotion. It says that even floods cannot extinguish it. When love is genuine, it remains faithful through every season. Whenever temptation tries to pull our hearts elsewhere, the seal reminds us of the promise we once made. It turns our eyes back to the one we love and away from every illusion.

A Lasting Impression
In ancient times, a signet ring was pressed into clay or warm wax, leaving a unique and permanent mark on documents and treasured possessions.
The Bible often describes the heart as the center of our thoughts, emotions, and will. In the same way, love leaves its imprint on another person’s heart through countless everyday words, thoughtful actions, acts of kindness, forgiveness, and shared experiences. Over the years, that imprint grows deeper and more beautiful—a unique pattern that tells the story of a lifetime together.

Does Your Heart Carry a Seal?
Perhaps your heart bears the seal of someone you deeply love—someone with whom you have promised lifelong faithfulness.
But there is another question.
Do you know that God loves you?
Not only does He love you—He longs to place His seal upon your heart.
If you could read the inscription on that seal, it would simply say:
„I love you more than anything.“
„Place me close to your heart, like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, its passion as relentless as the grave. Its flames are flames of fire, a mighty flame of the Lord.“

Throughout both Jewish and Christian tradition, this verse has often been understood not only as a love poem between a man and a woman, but also as a picture of God’s unfailing love for His people. The seal becomes a symbol of His unbreakable covenant and of the deep relationship He desires with every human soul.
Perhaps that is the greatest love story of all.
