My Heart Does Know

Is there anything more beautiful than knowing, „I am loved“?
I am loved. I know it. It is deeply rooted in my heart, and nothing will ever change that.
You are loved too. Perhaps you just don’t know it yet.
In 1860, Anna Bartlett Warner wrote a poem for the novel Say and Seal to comfort a dying boy. Two years later, William B. Bradbury composed a melody for it. The result became one of the best-known children’s songs in the world:
„Jesus loves me, this I know…“
That simple song has always meant a great deal to me. Its uncomplicated words have comforted me many times throughout my life.
With those lyrics in the back of my mind, I wrote my own interpretation of this timeless message:
„My Heart Does Know.“
Shortly before his death, the world-renowned theologian Karl Barth was reportedly asked:
„Professor Barth, after a lifetime of study and so many published books, what is the greatest conclusion you have reached?“
He paused for a moment and replied with the words of that children’s song:
„Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.“
Jesus loves me.
There is no greater truth our hearts can carry.
It is a treasure more valuable than anything this world could ever offer.
In my song, I try to describe how I experience that love.
It feels like an endless ocean inviting me to step in—to dive beneath the surface, to rise again, to rest, to breathe, and simply enjoy being surrounded by His presence.
Water washes away dirt. In the same way, the love of Jesus cleanses me from my guilt and sin.
Only Jesus has the power to do that.
I certainly do not.
Why?
Because Jesus even conquered death itself. Out of love, He died in my place and opened the door to heaven, inviting me to enter.
I accepted His gift of love and responded to it with my own love for Him. Because of that, heaven is not something I hope to earn—it is a promise I have received.
The Bible teaches that Jesus paid the price for my entrance with His own life because I could never have earned that „ticket“ myself. No amount of good works would ever be enough.
It is grace.
Not religious achievement.
Jesus will always remain by my side if I allow Him to. I have a secure place in His heart.
Whatever happens, He will never reject me.
Whenever I ask Him, He forgives me.
I belong to Him, and He belongs to me.
This song is my personal confession of love to Jesus.
